Additive/Subtractive Machining Cycle

Very cool new 5-axis machine being showcased from DMG Mori. How about a machine that can make it's own stock?

The printed part looks a lot like a sand casting and I wouldn't be surprised if the material properties are similar.

Anyone speak German and care to translate the buzzwords?

Thats pretty cool. Imagine what it'll be able to do in a couple more years.

Though my current Haas Vf4 can easily add HSS or carbide to a piece of aluminum or steel if I program it just right.

Hermle had one for ~7-8 years

That's very interesting, do you have any idea how many of them might be in service right now?

I know some 3D printing related patents expired earlier this year, but not for this type of machine.
