    Default 0t-----Enzo's war-------1939--1945

Enzo Ferrari established his motorsport enterprise---Scuderia Ferrari-- in Modena Italy--1929

he adopted the Prancing Horse logo as tribute to WWI fighter ace Count Francesco Baracca

in 1939 he was instructed by Mussolini government to produce grinders--surface and OD---for production of precision bearings--Ferrari visited Germany with request to license established products and met with rejection--german machines were too complex for his production resources

he then founded Auto Avio Costruzioni--1939-- Modena--making exact copies of denied german units

a new facility-- Maranello 1943-met with ariel Allied bombing '44-'45

so my search focused upon location of surviving machine tools produced by Ferrari
    during war years--

answer---one surface grinder remains--in collection of University of Modena

indisputable parentage of this 1942 unit as Il Cavallino Rampante
    emblem wordlessly affirms
