Hi all,

I picked up an anonymous lathe yesterday and would like to find out what is! The previous owner is a former toolmaker and had bought it with the intention of restoring it. He reckoned is was German and from the 20's or 30's.

I've had a look on Tony's site and the closest I've found so far is a Beling & Lubke DP.
Beling & Lubke Lathes

The RH end of the rear way has "BEC" stamped on it, which some people have suggested means it's an IXL / Erlich but it doesn't match the pictures of the Erlich lathes I have found.

Any help much appreciated!
Apologies for the photos; they were taken in haste in a dark garage lastnight, I'll get some better ones if needs be!

Eire,

Apologies if you already know this....

I don't know who made your lathe, but I think "BEC" can be found on B. Elliott & Co. machinery. For example, attached photo (from lathes.co.uk website) shows an "Empire" lathe bed.

According to Tony's pages, it is unclear who actually manufactured these "British Made" lathes, perhaps made in Holland (Belgium?) by Mondiale or in Britain by ? I think in later years Elliott was in the habit of buying up machine tool makers, but I am not sure about the cone-head era.

Empire Lathe, Mondial, Laagland

Hi there, I'm guessing this thread may well be long-forgotten now, but I have an almost identical lathe, albeit under-driven. Likewise, it has a B.E.C. number, mine stamped into the front way. Yours is the only other one I've seen, all the possible manufacturers on Lathes.co.uk having similar characteristics but not quite the same.IMG_20210226_182512.jpg
