Always looking for items to help solve machining issues being I do usually maintenance work that usually requires making new from a beat-up original. But there are times I fix the old.
I purchased what can best be said is a boat anchor from HGR on line. What I thought was a Universal/Independent 3 jaw chuck is that except it has no key for the universal. A scroll can be seen and the jaws mesh with it, plus there is a screw to adjust the jaws like a typical 4 jaw chuck. As I said no opening for a wrench to turn the scroll. Been busy and walk by the dam thing that seem to trying to trip me! It's at least 12" in diameter but quite long, quite a bit longer than the typical Universal/Independent 3 Jaw chucks I have. I'm so busy I don't have time to tinker with it but it looks as if it is similar to a self closing chuck. Back is threaded at least 6". To add to the oddity it has soft jaw attached. It don't look old. Anyone have any idea what it could have been used on?
