I am going to be listing some machines for sale for a fellow collector...
Please view the pictures and if you have any questions on the machines or price just send me a PM and I will put you in contact with the owner... This fella is not looking to get rich off of any of these machines...he realizes the value is more in the preservation of these machines than money so don’t be afraid to call him and make an offer as I am certain he will be more than reasonable. I am going to try and post pictures the best I can as I usually never have good luck so if you want better pictures we can get them to you. The machines are located in the Cleveland Ohio area Thanks for looking. GeorgeCDE076CB-FB15-48E6-AFC5-D6BB23B275D2.jpgCECA6254-17BE-4FA2-A186-E26AFBE482D5.jpg

I believe there are a few more machines available that we just didn’t show in the pictures... if you find any interest in anything you see just let me know. Thanks George

Here is what looks like a metal planer but is actually a grinder made by Brown and Sharpe.... I have never seen one like it myself...

The drill press looks exactly like the Leland-Gifford drill press I just bought... see the thread here Leland Gifford Drill Press South Carolina CL
I picked it up for $250 and thought it was a good deal... though I might add that is was powered and ran wonderfully for testing, ie; I could verify that it was useful without any further effort. Not sure if I would have bought it had I not been able to confirm the belt/cone pulley system was fully functional with no bad bearings, the spindle wasn't bent and the runout was minimal.

There is an illustration and description of a Brown and Sharpe surface grinder similar to the one in the photos shown here.

You may have to scroll back a page to see the start.
I recognised it since I have a printed copy of a slightly newer edition of this book.
The linked book is dated 1903 so the machine could be somewhat older or perhaps several years newer than that.
Regards ,
Jim

IIRC, there are two sizes made of B&S Planer Grinders.

36" bed and 14 between uprights and 60" bed and 14 between.

This would appear to be the larger version.

The smaller could be made to fit in my shop but hens teeth have a better chance of getting there.

This is one of those machines seen in 1978 at Tater Machinery of West Leominster, MA. His back lot looked like something out of Joshua Rose's "Modern Machine Shop Practice." Now long gone, mostly scrapped I'm sure.
