Åsbrink lathe restoration

Hello,
Just recently, I became a happy owner of an Åsbrink lathe.
Have you ever heard of it? It is one of the different swedish versions of the Southbend 9” lathe.
My lathe is the longer version which means that the bed is around 1450 mm. It was made in southern Sweden and my lathe was probably produced in late 40’s or 50’s.
Unfortunately, the previous owner has taken it apart and some of the pieces have been lost over the years.
At the moment I miss most of the parts in the headstock, only the main casting for the spindle remains.

Hopefully, there may be an option to fit Southbend parts to it, but I am not 100% sure if they will fit. There might be some need for modifications.
To start with, I will go for plain bearings, but if I can find a good solution for tapered roller bearings or angular contact ball bearings, I can get the precision and speed I wish for.

Not a SB or SB clone, but does show just how big the head stock casting features get for anti friction precision class bearings

The precision of a plane bearing can be excellent, don't be so quick to discount them. Yes the speed will be lower, but that's not a big deal in a non-production setting. You should measure the spindle bore in the headstock, and see if anyone in the southbend forum here at PM can match it.

The front bearing bore (chuck side) is close to 52mm in diameter. The rear is close to 41mm.
Low speed gear shaft bores are 32mm.

The oil fillers are marked with Sweden Conus... :)

Why do the pictures get upside down...???

When you use a cell phone to post the pictures they are routed through Australia, they think everything should be upside down so they do what they can to mess with everyone else...;)

Seriously, it is probably using a phone instead of computer, it happens to a lot of people. Been explained as something with the self aligning of pics on phone??

Here is a better explanation from another thread:
Let me guess...took them with a phone camera? Phone cameras tend to identify which side is up poorly if the picture is taken with the phone in certain orientations. You can fix it by opening in a legit photo editing program on a PC and rotating then resaving. Doing the same thing on a phone editing program never seems to work.
Yes they were taken with the camera on my phone. I did also rotate them after up loaded on PC and saved them correctly. But I couldn't get them correct on here and gave up after a few try's.
