I have a Barnes #5.. and need to replace a tooth on the gear that's attached to the head stock pully. it appears to be pinned on !!
Would be easier if the gear was removed.

It may be possible to "pin" the tooth "in situ." Another site describes doing this with an overlay of braze - but I've seen it done with larger (and overlapping) threaded pins such that the pin(s) can be formed with a file (or shaper) to an approximate tooth form. One could even tell their threaded rod origins.
Its not necessary to work these pins into the "corner." My Flather No. 715 had this done to about the same gear/location as yours and it ran without interruption. One old timer I consulted said "probably stronger than the original teeth" although one gets more a feeling of "dentures."
But - it did work fine for the years I had that lathe.
