Uncomfortably gimmicky to some, this is a brick model built in 1964. It replicates 'Mallard', a Gresley
A4, and is located in Darlington, England, at one terminus of the historic Stockton to Darlington RR. The orginal locomotive was constructed in 1938 and almost immediately set the speed record of 126 mph, possibly still standing, for steam traction. 185,000 bricks.

I was working up there around the time that the site opened for visitors. As it says it was built in 1997, not 1964. I've got a folder full of photos somewhere in the house but I don't know where they are now. It's a very impressive thing to see.

Regards Tyrone.

Tyrone - thanks for the date correction. My "1964" is the date Mallard went into preservation.

Here is a photograph of Sir Nigel, taken several years before England's declaration of war in 1939.
