Here is my summer read. Lot of historical reference to early machine tool builders and early shop organization. Good read for those into history of industry and Navies conversion from sail to steam, and the rise of the Royal Yard's steam factories to support these new ships.

I’ll second that recommendation. I bought a copy following a recommendation from Peter S.

200 pages, numerous high quality photos and drawings showing machines, docks, ship details, structures of iron-framed buildings, furnaces, chains, anchors, etc. Good photos of ships on slips, and of docks and breakwaters being constructed. Lists of machine tool types and their makers in a number of shops.
