Default The CHARLES CLARK Protractor of 1904

I recently had the opportunity to admire an example (perhaps the sole example) of a curious Machinist Protractor.

It's cool how his signature on the Patent Papers matches that on the Tool.

I do not belong to Ancestry.com, so my ability to discover his birth or death is limited. I found nothing on the web. I also could not find any other patents of his.

That fact he was a citizen of the UK at the time would indicate, to me, that Charles may have moved around a bit during his life. Which complicates research.

But he did live in Beverly, Mass at the Patent Date. And may have worked at The United Shoe Company: a major employer in Beverly at the time.

That is super cool, would have loved to own it! I have a prototype of a patented square that has nearly a dozen features that to my knowledge was never manufactured.
