I have a semi circular recess in one wall, and my custom range hood (a 30" diameter stainless steel hemisphere) is partially recessed into the wall.
I made a form for the back splash and heated it in the oven and draped it into the mold to form it. Then seamlessly joined it to the straight sections. The range hood is a inner pressure liner from a Centaur rocket nitrogen tank. Two halves were welded together and spun with fiberglass for strength.
