I recently scratched my ear at an auction and wound up with an old power hacksaw in the truck. So now I'm cleaning it up and figuring out what it needs.
This is a Toledo saw, made by LW Chuck. It's probably a later model of it's type. The original motor belt and pulleys have been replaced by a 1.5HP gearmotor with a chain drive to the saw. Ought to have some grunt!
It came originally with an oiling system, most of which is gone. I would like to rebuild that. My question is, what kind of cutting oil should it use, and what kind of pump to drive it?
There was what looks like a shaft-driven positive displacement pump hanging in the reservoir, but I can see no way that it could take power.
Also, most saws I have seen came with a hydraulic downfeed cylinder. I can't see that this ever had one. I have looked at photos of these Toledo saws on the interwebs and no controlled downfeed to be seen. Seems a bit unusual, but I suspect that big motor doesn't care.
Anyone have experience with these?
