I am in the process of purchasing a Sheldon MW-56-P lathe. It was originally outfitted with a Furnas brand reversing starter. The original starter is marginal and I would like to replace it. I have several other machines in the shop that utilize Allen Bradley controls and have been quite happy with them. It has been suggested I use either a size 0 or size 1 model 705 or 505. The problem I've run into is that I can't seem to find any literature to identify the various suffixes attached to the starter identification numbers.

I have found several new and used 705 and 505 series starters, but they have a variety of suffix letters attached. Here are a few examples: 505-BOA, 705-BOD46, 705X-AOA, 705-AAA, 705-AOD, etc., etc.

Can anyone point me in the proper direction as to where to find the information needed to decipher what the suffix letters and numbers mean?

As an update I was able to find the information necessary to decode the suffixes used for the Allen Bradley 505 and 705 reversing starters. If anyone else is interested there are several online documents available. Some come from Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation while others are from vendors.

The first document covers the 505 reversing series:

Here's another covering the 500 series non-reversing series:

Here's one for the K series 600 volt contactors:

Here's one for the 509 series non reversing starters:
