Douglas Aircraft-------------1938

Some of you may recognize Mikey McBryan from the TV show Ice Pilots
YouTube
A link to one of his Youtube videos caught my attention after another video I was watching .
He has undertaken a project to restore a C47 /DC3 Dakota that flew with the R.A.F. on the D.Day invasion and hopes to have it flying for the 75th anniversary at Montreal’s St.Hubert airport south of the Island of Montreal
Plane Savers - Make her fly again !
There are several videos on his Youtube channel showing the progress .

These are videos of his own making and not of the same type as the made for TV Ice Pilots

An update to my last post.

It was so nice to see the dedicated young people involved in the project in the many episodes.
They will have so many memories to last a lifetime .

Trying to keep this thread a little on the topic of machine tools for this forum I noticed Buffalo Airways has a couple of older lathes in the shop where one of the DC-3 Engines came from .
One lathe appears to be to be a South Bend but I don’t instantly recognize the larger one that may have a riser under the head stock for some special job and look to be well cared for.
You can see them starting here in this link
https://youtu.be/zlCM3UsBlf8?t=475
Also in episode 115 linked in the previous post ,
I think the blue and white mills shown starting here
https://youtu.be/ER-xYKGAz7A?t=1225
may be Tos F2V-RAs similar to what is shown here .
https://www.tos-olomouc.cz/en/production-program/milling-machines/knee-type-milling-machine-f2v-r/
and the lathes in the brief view shown be fairly new Tos SN 40 lathes like this one .
https://www.practicalmachinist.com/...os-sn40-lathe-spindle-play-tos-lathe-sn40.jpg
I noticed some very brief images of an older style multiple spindle drill and a small mill if not a Deckle FP1 it starting here

Someone from Hong Kong just finished an insanely giant mansion only one block from my house. And they had a DC-3 installed in the yard, supposedly for grandkids to play in. I remember when it was delivered; looked like it was in use before this guy bought it. The old orchard land goes for big $$ here now. Bummer to see the changes...

There are some photos of some radial engine parts being made , similar to some of the types shown in the Blakey Shop videos above
I noticed them in the Treatise on milling and Milling Machines Third Edition.( 1951)

I have some small family connections with the C-47/DC-3.
I've told this story before.
My step father was a fighter pilot in China.
14th Air Force, 23rd Fighter Group, 76th Fighter Squadron, but he also flew many missions over the "Hump", (Himalayas) in a C-47.
He joined the service in November of 1941 and ferried a lot of planes around the U.S. before he left for China.
I asked him what his favorite plane was and after a little thought he said the P-51D was first, but the C-47 was close behind.

My father worked at the Smithsonian Air Museum, (pre Air & Space) Suitland Annex as a plane restorer from the 1950's until he died in 1961.
Here he is in the co-pilot seat of the Eastern Air Lines plane that has hung on the Mall.
My Mother is a great saver of all family history.

Thanks for posting that Jim. I'll have to show that to my 94 year old mother.
Things are a little different on how they moved it today.
