Hi all,

I am looking for an expert opinion on some antique machining techniques and equipment. We are interested in antique candy making equipment and how they were made at the turn of the century. If you are curious you can see some examples on my web page (Day Game Candy). We are struggling to figure out how these drop roller dies were made.

Our thinking is that cores were made heating the brass cylinder and pressure fitting it on the steel shaft/axel. Then perhaps put on a lathe to clean it up. Lastly, perhaps some type of indexed copy mill to make the candy shape?

Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise.

Jon
