Earlier flat belt shaper

This is a standard 24 inch Hendey Friction Shaper built between 1894 and 1916. It is shown with the motor bracket. For a better
understanding of how the motor and countershaft were fitted to the bracket, consult fig.36 on page 90 of Copes book on shapers.
Also, shown in the pictures you posted is the two-speed Countershaft used with line shafting drive. Of the surviving Hendey Friction
Shapers, it would appear that they all are being operated as single speed machines, which reduces their flexibility. all of the
original drawings for these Friction Shapers, both Pillar and Traverse style have survived as both hard copies and on microfilm.
Patterns, Castings and Repair Parts no longer exist for these machines.
