I have an old "Bottle" style 4 HP steam engine. The eccentric has an oiler of which I am not familiar with. I think it might be missing something. There is a perforated diaphragm held down by a coil spring inside. Is there suppose to be felt in there some where?
I suspect that the missing part is a ball or a domed piece of sheet metal acting similar to a ball in ball oilers (i.e. to keep the crud out, push in with the tip of the oiler when filling it).
My Rockwell lathe and Hendy both have similar oilers but there is a ball inside for the spring to hold up. I dont know how one could come out though.
I was in Eddys when the hotel across the street burned down, We've all probably sat next to each other
At least some of the large ones of the Hendey lathe at Tuckahoe, instead of a true ball have a U-shaped piece of sheet metal with the bottom of the U embossed to simulate a ball.
