If no one has experience with these issues I will just perform exploratory surgery, but I am guessing that several of you do...

The longitudinal axis of my Hendey-Norton No 2 slips under high load under powered feed. I can keep it from slipping by helping with the crank handle, but if I help excessively I can overdrive the feed. It feels that it slips at about 10 ft/lb of torque.

The cross-feed axis has lost motion. It seems that the thrust bearings which locate the screw have failed. The handle and screw will will slip a half inch out of the casting. In addition cranking the screw to drive the table towards the spindle forces engagement of the feed. To keep it in manual mode the feed engagement lever must be held off.

Any ideas in advance of surgery would be appreciated.

My apologies

Trying to convey to the readership that the post relates to a Milling Machine - since the overwhelming percentage of Hendey posts refer to lathes
