Had this posted in the commerce section.
Asking $150, looking for a decent offer before resorting to ebay.

Can't find any recently sold ones to help determine fair value.

Opinions on value, or if I should dump it on Ebay are welcome.

Also have a Starrett 257 for $35.

I don't know if any of those are a #55 (or anyone cares if they are actually going to use it), but your price is way out of line IMO, unless this is a vintage collectible piece..? Even then, it is quite beat up IMO...

edit: the $35 one sounds right
Hello,
Yes, the #55 is a rare collectible. There's a thread on this forum where the rarity of this model is discussed. Problem is it's rare enough that I cannot find any sold ones on ebay to use as a guide, and the only current ebay listing is for a complete one for $450. But I realize just because a seller asks $450 doesn't mean much.

Here's the old discussion:

Steve.

I don't get collecting vintage tools...?

Maybe your value is right, or in the ballpark, I really don't know, I was just looking at it as a tool, to be used, not a 'collectible' item....

I get collecting old or vintage tools. I think that is obvious to the readers here on PM.

Not me. I suppose if it was an old indicator, that was like new (not a simple surface gage, rusted up to boot*) it would interest me, but I sure would not pay "collector" or "vintage" prices for it!

*not an attack on the OP, just my opinion, and we all know how opinions work :D
