I just picked up a old drill press but I can’t identify it. There is no name plate or info plate at all. The base that it sits on appears to be home made, the motor mount is a “addition” bolted to the back of the drill press. And there is a counter weight in the center tube that attaches to the quill with a chain to return it to the home position. 518A92D3-061B-4B74-8D68-800EFFE58329.jpg23104EB2-103E-4A1A-B02A-4F02DCED1558.jpgF9A85F12-C654-4A5E-A6FE-63AB006F5BCF.jpgB49C32F8-5D68-4D2F-BA1F-7DF13BFFF691.jpg3BB3D008-1BE3-4A07-AF00-6BDFA711D8D8.jpg

I was able to get some information off a 1730’s vintage beam post manual drill press by acid etching the manufacture’s serial stamp and raising the letters through a badly pitted partially rusted away plate on the base. The electrolytic process pulled oxidized particles out of the surface which raised the dense compressed metal under the original stamping. If that is the original motor the casing might hold some information from this method.
