I know I've seen this in some vintage tool catalog, but my library isn't cooperating. Unmarked, but finish and knob style look a lot like pre-30's B&S (??) (Lufkin rule pictured is not original). The "L" clamp in back has a half-round ridge that fits the groove on a Starrett/B&S/Mit combination blade. The head of the clamp screw is also cross drilled, evidently for a round shafted scriber (not present).

Clues appreciated,

Mike

Thanks for the tip, indeed it's evidently a Starrett #266. Appears on p. 53 of catalog #26 (ca. 1938) but not in older or newer catalogs I can find.

Other examples are stamped on either the blade or the clamp; this has no markings but otherwise exactly the same.

Evidently intended for locomotive rod guide alignment. I'm thinking lathe tool height setter?

I think that is the Starrett surface gauge attachment for a combination square. The B & S one had a cast body so it is not that.
