Hi, First time poster,

My late grandfather left me his metal lathe. Due to covid i can't go and see it so my dad sent me some photos.

I know it has Zyto markings on it, but i don't know the model/year etc. and i wanted to do some research before restoring it.

Could you lot help me ID this bad boy?

Cheers

Mike

Thanks, I've had a read through, but i can't seem to find reference to any Zyto machines that are this size, and that don't have "zyto" embossed on the front.

Before anyone cleans that shed make sure you've got all the change gears for the lathe. If you lose some tooling or such it can easily be replaced. Change gears can be a much bigger hassle.

A quick scan of the Lathes.co.uk essay suggests that this might be an example of badge engineering. The great cover is an easy spot to put your name on another manufacturer's product. I'd start my search with Portass lathes and then move on to some of the other marques mentioned in the article.
