Mat159:
The older the lathe, less information will be found in the files. All that is listed for lathe No.4164 is that it is a 16x6 model Cone
Head. It would appear that it was built during December 1900. The original owner was not listed. The No. 670 stamped into the Bed, may
have been assigned to an earlier lathe order that was cancelled. Since the No.670 would have been assigned before the introduction of
the Norton Gear Box in 1892 and there was a design change to the Bed for the new design, it would seem that hypothesis is unlikely.
There are no longer any Patters, Castings or Repair Parts left in inventory for a lathe of this age. All of the original drawings are
still in the files, so parts can be made if required. The Spindle Nose Taper should be a Morse 4-1/2 and the Tailstock Spindle Taper
is a Morse No. 3. The center to center distance is 30 inches with the Tailstock flush with the end of the Bed.
