You would think that an outfit like Hispano - Suiza could design a better looking car than what they came up with.

As an aside H - S today is one of the world's largest manufacturer of aircraft landing gear. If you have ever flown on an Airbus you came back to earth on a set of H - S landing gear. Also they were big into machine tolls in the past, most well known for there tool & Cutter grinders.

I have seen one of the small H-S surface grinders, the spindle appeared well done: A belt drive affair similar to what we are used to seeing on a lot of the older North American tool grinders. Which is to say, motor and spindle as a duplex unit, motor atop the spindle and connected by a short cog-belt. Is this the same platform H-S used for their tool grinder?

Flexible folks. Designed and built what the times demanded of them, and always to a high standard indeed of both design innovation .... and quality of execution.

Perhaps their most famous work was the most widely copied, modified, greatly improved, then built by others in its larger numbers?
