HV-4N style indexer - worn or user error?

Hi everyone,

I acquired a used HV-4N style indexer recently, and I pulled it apart to give it a good cleaning before using. Now that's it's back together, everything works as it should. But, I've noticed that after I index to a new position, I'm able to rotate the spindle a tiny amount if I pull hard on the chuck - maybe a degree or so, back and forth.

Is there supposed to be a spindle lock on these things, to be locked down before milling? Or does it rely on the close fit between the indexing pin and the indexing plate? In which case mine is likely worn and the pin needs replaced?

Thanks in advance

Lee

Thanks!

I thought I had them backed out pretty well, but I went back around and backed then out until they hit the retaining ring. Now the indexer clicks audibly when the pin engages, and all play is gone. Fantastic, thanks :)
