Hi Greg, I tried to send you a message but your box is full.

First off, thank you for the work you do keeping this section of the PM wonderful!

I see more people are starting to put all their photos at the end of a thread to replace those that photobucket has blocked. I think this is a great idea. I’m wondering if there is any kind of icon or sticky thing that can be put up in or near the title to let folks know the photos have been replaced and that thread is now as good and useable as it was. This would be best done by the poster and not an extra job for a moderator.

I am planing on putting my photos back in some of my most popular threads as soon as I have time.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Sorry about the full PM inbox.. limit of 50 fills up quickly- its cleared up now. I don't have any special powers for fixing up such threads OTOH new postings on the end of them will bring them to the top of the forum. I've no problem with at least temporarily marking high-value threads as sticky so they stay visible. I can re-open locked threads if thats a help. I could also edit the thread title; perhaps add some kind of thread prefix to indicate the thread has been fixed up.

Greg

Thanks, I think editing the title would be perfect except that is extra work for you. What simple phrase could be added to let folks know? The regulars on PM will catch on quick but it should let those visiting know, many of these threads are many pages long and a new person might give up before getting to the end. So maybe something like “NEW PHOTOS AT END”, “REPLACED PHOTOS”. Whatever is used it should be consistent.

Ideas anyone for a good phrase?

Again thanks Greg.

Great Idea Bill,
If there was an easy way to create a button we could click on at the go advanced page when adding replacement photos ,and have some icon or words appear beside the thread title on the main page so we would know to scroll down to see replacement photos then it might save Greg some work.
There might need to be a note on the main page to show newcomers what the Icon is for.
Thanks Greg for all you do to keep the forum up.
Regards,
Jim

generally the PB stuff is visible in focus if you click on it and view on their site.

Or even just an asterisk on the front- max thread title length is constrained and our regulars probably know the threads well, so keeping it simple is an advantage. I don't mind editing the titles at all, happy to help- I wish being a mod gave me magic powers to fix other things but not so much :)

As a test I put an asterisk in front of the title of John's "Shoeing forks" thread. If theres a consensus for/against, maybe his can be a guinea pig...

Seems efficient and least involved as far as just doing it - and I thank you for being willing

Some of mine needing the asterisk

Hi John,

I put an asterisk on the "Set Up" thread, cannot edit the title of the "disappearance" thread it is in the Cinci Milacron K&T USA Heavy Iron forum. Seems like referencing the threads ready for an asterisk in this one will work fine. I wonder a bit if an asterisk is enough... but maybe I'm too close to it and something like that is fine.

Greg

Would a thread with a sticky so it stays near the top explaining what the asterisk means help? Maybe if it had a bold eye catching title? Also say you used 3 asterisks, would that be more noticeable and still not take up as many spaces as any text would.

Ahh, a sticky "greatest hits" thread- that is a good idea. I think the asterisk in the thread titles would then help us keep track of which are fixed or not.

Happy to do that- maybe as folks fix their threads, post them here- then I'll periodically collect them and put the links in a sticky Greatest Hits thread; perhaps it could stay locked so the mod adds threads according to the consensus of the forum?

Greg,

We are looking at options for rehosting all of Archie's Lucas pictures, about 150. That's a lot of URLs to edit. Is there a way to make this easier by (maybe) making the <img> tags relative, and using a <base> tag to point to the host server? We would still have to edit but if it ever became necessary to move them again... ?

Hi Jeff, long time no mess with! :)

Yeah thats a good thread to fix up. That sort of fix makes sense, do we have the original pics somewhere already- other hosting or something similar? I don't mind helping to grind thru the url's to fix them up.. whatever works easiest.

Greg

Asterisk added to the 5 threads, I think the ampersand in the L&S is confusing the forum software- going to the link shows the asterisk just fine. Thanks for fixing them John!
