I have a neighbour down the street selling an old lathe. As of right now it requires a 220 power source which I have if needed, he’ll also provide a 110ac motor.
I don’t have much info about it but did take a quick photo

Interkrenn
Model IDK555
Series Profiline
750w

Offered him 500CAD. Comes with limited tooling and a matching base. Was planning on picking it up today just wondering if anyone has any last minute advice on this lathe.

Concerns...it’s old and German, what if I need parts
It could be metric only, not sure how to check.
Paying too much, not sure

Check about the inter net to find brand new mini lathes for around 600. Most if not all are not very good even new compared to a real lathe you might get for $1000.

Search mini lathe and see what you find.

Good to take a piece of CRS and try to turn a thread...
If you are handy let him show you how well it cuts a thread on steel.

If already bought then make the best if it and learn about running a lathe..

Very good first thread title.

Super appreciate the assessment and advice here! Drove the trailer there today and knowing it was a Chinese import gave me more reason to inspect the details and look more closely... Turns out I must’ve been in a rush looking at it the first time... POS! Next

I owned one of those mini lathes and mini mills still both on their crates, but was going from one rental house to another and never thought I’d own a house with a shop so sold them. 6 months later bought a house, darn.

Will be back again one day when I save up enough.

Thanks again
