I need to move a Landis grinder,Type C,16x72 Universal,WW2......I need a weight for the machine...I have the instruction book,no mention of weight ....I also have a Cinci book that does give weighs, and a similar size machine is under 10,000lbs......The Landis seems to me a lot heavier than this,as previously its been moved with mobile cranes ,where anything under 10 ton is OK......But I need to get it moved with a truck with mounted crane ,to contain cost .......there are plenty of trucks around can lift and load 5 ton,but over that ,Im into specialised movers and very high rates.

Universals are lighter than Plains, smaller everything like wheel and wheel head

My ''47 14 X 60 B&S is less than 7000 - 14" wheel max

Add 3000 for Landis extra length and good sense and call it good

An example might be the similar vintage(Sept 1941) Norton 10 X 72 Type C PLAIN was 12,100. These would take up to a 30" wheel

Do you have Landoll type traveling axle trailers down there? That is an excellent candidate for to move with such a trailer. Then it doesn't matter what it weighs.

I've got a similar age Landis that is smaller, like about 10x48................it is massively heavy. Very good load for a Case forklift. I would guess it at 8k.

I had a 50's 6" x 18" (with a 5* wheelhead, it was cool) and that sucker weighed about 5,000.

Landis didn't cheapout on cast iron. You might try looking up an R for a guesstimate, but I think the older ones were heavier.

There is a transport co moved in just around the corner from my yard, lots of big cranes ...catch is everything is new ,and a new Palfinger 24 ton /metre crane is $1/4M,add to a $200k truck ,and hourly rate isnt going to be cheap.......But then the scrap guy says he's got $1/2 M invested in each bin truck and bins.....and he dont charge me nothin to pick up .(Well ,$50 a ton actually ,what pickup pays less than yard price.)
