I wanted to know how old, then if someone had documentation drawings, and if someone explains to me the thread table thank you

I understand the gears, but I do not understand the step 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 etc,etc

The threads are in threads (cuts) per inch..(Whitworths system) ...not metric where the pitch is also the dimension.....You can cut metric threads, but will need a 127 tooth change gear.....there are other combinations using smaller gears that give a close approximation.

The threads are imperial threads per inch. SPDL is the change gear that goes on top driven from the spindle, SCR is the change gear that goes on the lead screw. The lathe probably dates from around 1910 to 1915 give or take a few years.

Let's say you were in the 8 row. Those gears in that lathe would result in the lathe cutting 8 threads per inch, about like a 3.18 pitch metric thread

I understand the gears, but I do not understand the step 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 etc,etc

The image below shows the basics of transposing or translating gears to make such a lathe capable of cutting metric threads. The F and E gears work together as one gear and are referred to as a COMPOUND. They would be like 127 teeth and 100 teeth

Transpose Basics.jpg
If we still had the row 8 gears in place - and if the lathe did in fact have the 127/100 compound - it would cut a 2.5 mm pitch thread.

Here is the quite simple math:

lead of 8 pitch screw in inches = .125"
ratio of compound = 127 / 100 = 1.27 : 1
.125" / 1.27 = .09843"
.09843 X 25.4 = 2.5 mm

Other tooth counts can come very close as to compound

80 / 63 = 1.26984 : 1

I see the row 8 gears are 72 and 96 - meaning the lead screw of the lathe is 6 pitch

96/72 = 1.33333 : 1

.125" X 1.3333 = .16666"

Reciprocal of .16666 = 6
