I got a led on a Springfield Model S Lathe
It was said to be a 22 x 80.
Has not run in years.

Wanted to hear from some owners and operators for the Model S.
Would you buy it again?
Any problems known with these?
Was the serial number only on the leg plate?
Did Springfield continue to use the first 2 numbers to tell the year of manufacture till the end?

Anything I should really take a extra look at?
What would you say a fair price would be ??

Thanks to everyone !

Have not seen it yet, Just a dark phone picture.
Slight rust on ways from just sitting in a unheated building.
Has steady and taper. Could not see the back. To see if the pump was still on.
Looks like a 12" 4 jaw. No tool holder. No price but said reasonable.

Thanks John,
I did check out vintage machinery last week.
I saw the 1954 brochure. I was thinking the Model S had a 60's style about it.
So I was surprised to see a 54 brochure.
But I did notice the 22" was not listed. So that would be a newer lathe.

Plus, I actually have a 1969 Model S manual in my collection of manuals.

I just have never been around a Model S.
So I was hopping some owners or operators would chime in !

Anyone know what years the Model S was in Production.
Plus what happened to Springfield ? Trying to find information on the company seems hard to do.

Seriously doubt it was an "S", but it was a 32" and I borrowed it to cut a metric thread - since it was a metric equipped machine

Only Springfield I was ever around

Great beast of a lathe - probably from WW2
