Found this neat old protractor. It's marked Mass tool company, Greenfield, Mass U.S.A.

From what I can gather, these were later sold under the Goodell Pratt name as a draftsman protractor number 50.

I read that MTC was a wholly owned subsidiary of Goodell, so does this mean these are older than the Goodell pratt ones?

I found an ad in a 1912 popular mechanics magazine for the Goodell pratt ones, so I wonder how old these are?

Steve.

Nice find, I have one just like it.

According to Ken Cope's book Makers of American Machinist's Tools, GOODELL-PRATT CO formed MASSACHUSETTS TOOL CO in 1900 as a captive company to produce a wide variety of machinist's tools. The early products, rules and adjustable notch center gauges, were from the purchase of COFFIN & LEIGHTON in 1901 and micrometers from the purchase of LAVIGNE MICROMETER CO around the same time. Shortly before 1920, GOODELL-PRATT CO closed the company down but continued to make the same tools under the MASSACHUSETTS TOOL CO name and later under the GOODELL-PRATT name.

Hope that helps.
