He understood soon enough

for thru this opacity the Creators witnessed the foul Ejecta of Breath and Bowel of their Demon Incubus birthed this day---16 July 1945--in the desert sands of Trinity Zero

That's interesting. I suppose some of the physicists must have estimated the visible/UV yield in advance of the test, but I'm surprised it was "only" shade 10. I used shade 13 when viewing the August 2017 solar eclipse. The sun is, of course, much bigger than any nuke, but the nuke blasts were considerably closer than the horizon.
