I recently picked up a P & W slotter toolholder. Could someone remove my ignorance on how the sliding lock or bar works with the toolbit?

And would anyone with a similar machine be willing to post some photos and dimensions of the factory lantern style tool holder? I plan on making one- Mine came with a different arrangement as shown in the photos.

Thank in advance! JMc

12" here - fairly ordinary

You can let it "clap" or lock it up - and you can rotate it to any angle.

Another way of saying this is the cutting can be in front of ram or behind it, or on either side

Can email 6" manual if you care to Private Message that address

Or here is a little later version on VM

In a way we are done with this. We are looking past what already happened and what is going to BE.
Can't predict this so I'll just stfu.

Gerstner chests and they aren't the same as others.
Latches hasps and hinges all around. Every way to protect a machinist chest full of precision tooling.

"You can let it "clap" or lock it up"

I've installed locking setscrews and detentes to the clapper boxes of every shaper I've ever owned, and always wondered why they aren't standard equipment.
I'd love to have a slotter though and expect it would be far more useful than a shaper.
