Photo: ...lathe work...both turret and engine...International Harvester...

The lathe on the left is not a turret as normally known, see the hex turret is mounted on the cross slide, over here they're known as ''Boring and Surfacing Lathes '' no lead screw and just a feed shaft.

...thanks for the link...I thought something looked different there...it appears the workpiece is mounted on the turret...

No they're the toolholders with bushings to line up with the over head steady / guide bar which is fixed to the top of the headstock - obscured by the splash guard - they make a turret set up a lot more rigid.

The workpiece is in the chuck, I think he's boring the cored hole in the bracket - the finished parts propped against the headstock pedestal.
 
...just found another photo of the same factory...showing a row of Ward turret lathes...
