Hello, all,

Can anyone identify this old lathe? I friend bought this recently and has no idea what model it is, and what gear he needs for it or just other replacement parts.

I was thinking it looked a bit like a Le Blond or a Sheldon.
I looks much like a the Sheldon shown here
Sheldon Lathe 11 x 24 w/ tooling & gears Value?

The number on the Boston gear may still be a valid number sold by Boston Gear to help identify the Diametral Pitch of the gear.
Buying new missing change gears will add up to quite a bit of money very quickly but they can some times be found used or surplus on line for much less.
There are other threads on Sheldon lathes on this forum and others who have them or know more about them than I do will likely post more soon .
There are several variations in them over the years and there are several shown here.

Jim Christie, johnoder, thank you very much, gentlemen. Are replacement part for these models still available/easy to get?

As mentioned you can buy new change gears from Boston Gear but they may not stock all the sizes you may need.

Speed Reducer, Gear Drive, Variable Speed Drives | Boston Gear

They have distributors in Canada General Bearing Service is one with branches in Quebec.

Martin Sprocket is another supplier that may have some.

As for other parts for that machine, other posters on this forum know more about those machines than I do so maybe they can add something .

You can read about Dundeeshopnut's experiences with finding gears for his old lathe in this recent thread that will give you some Ideas.

At least for the Hendeys like his some parts are available but buying new parts or having them custom made can quickly add up to as much as one typically pays for a similar old lathe

The Sheldon group formerly on Yahoo is now [email protected] and is pretty good. Lots of valuable info in the files, knowledgeable helpful people. I bought a lathe similar to yours last year for a price I couldn't pass up, put it in storage, and will start cleaning it up when I get the time.
