Purchased a Hendey Lathe the other day. The serial # is 2718. I'm interested in any information I can get on this, specs, history, etc. I'd also be interested in purchasing manuals if available. I'm getting it cleaned up. Some of the gears have teeth missing so I'll have to repair or replace them. It started and ran when I purchased it, but still needs lots of cleaning. The way the motor was mounted did not seem to be correct so would like to find pictures on how to do the right, too. All info will be appreciated.

Here is a thread on those patent numbers

https://www.practicalmachinist.com/...patent-numbers-372875/?highlight=Early+Hendey

It had no motor when it was built - assuming like most other machine tools at that time, it was a line shaft machine. About the only thing that needs to be "correct" is how fast the upper cone pulley is turning. This is your "counter shaft", and Hendey says these should turn 106 to 135 RPM on the 14" lathe from about 1920.

No manuals in those days, but here is one maybe 18 years later from about 1920

And here is my old write up on their lead screw reverse system - starts at Post #17

Hendey lathe "emergency"!
