Monday I picked up a pretty nice L&S Powerturn lathe from a technical school. The lathe was bought new by the school board and shipped April/May of 1968. The present shop teacher explained it hadn't been used in the 7 years he'd been there and being the largest lathe (of about 10-12) in the shop the students were intimidated by it and didn't want to run it. So it looks pretty nice and unmolested and seems very few hours on it but suffers a little from neglect.

I have a few questions about what exactly it is.
The tag on the headstock pictured above says Model Number 1610 and it swings 18"
The parts manual that came with the machine has a sticker prepared for: Powerturn 1610 x 78" serial no. 47608 yet the cover I think implies a 1610 is a 13" HD
The packing slip that came with it shows size and type machine as Powerturn 1610 x 78" Engine Lathe w/L1 Spindle Nose
The following photos illustrate these points.
So is it really a 1610, I would guess an 18" lathe not 13", am I looking at the parts manual cover wrong? The parts manual doesn't even show 18"...
