Prentiss 23 vise repair advice

Hello, I am looking at buying this, but wanted to hear some advice on how to fix it first. I was thinking just having it machined to accept the newer style jaws
Prentiss #57, 23 (7 inch) Serrated Vise Jaws - Bench Vise Restoration
From this fellow here. Im not sure, what do you guys think. Also the guy wants just over a 100$ for the vise. The jaw is the only damage. Thanks for your time and looking.

I'd wait for a much better vise of a much much lower price. Unless it's got "H Ford" scribed on it somewhere.

Not sure about the value of the vise and repair combined but Kevin's work shows up frequently on the massive "vise" thread on the Garage Journal Forum. His work appears excellent and he's got a lot of satisfied customers over there.

Somebody evidently beat the crap out of it. It looks like iron is broken out behiund the jaw. If the screw and the nut are in good shape it might be worth restoring. It is pretty simple to build up the broken out iron using oxy-acy and cast iron rod. Then re-machine the jaw seat.

thanks everyone for your replys. illinoyance I honestly didn’t know that you could reweld the jaw with oxy-acy I am gonna research that a bit. Thanks for the tip the lead screw and box are in good shape. I just want a big strong vise and I thought the price was right if there was a semi easy fix.
