Putilov factories-------------1867-1915

The extent and breadth of the work shown is impressive.

An impression of grimness is common to many large factory environments of that period, and this one is no exception. The cold probably did not help. Working conditions lead to several major strikes at the factory, involving huge numbers of workers, contributing it is said to the revolution of 1917.

The factory apparently continues today, as the Leningrad Kirov Plant, in what is today St. Petersburg (Wikipedia).
