Rare Rivett milling machine on Craigslist

saw it a week ago when it was posted, but for the bad condition and missing all the attachments, it's priced more than 2x what I'd even drive out to take a look at it for =/

These are super rare, I had one on the pedestal base and sold it maybe 15 To 20 years ago for about $ 2000. It did not have acceories, just collets I think. 4 OS is what these take.

4 OS is what these take.
Hrm, ironically I have a full set (and then some) of 4 OS collets, because one of my 2 rivett lathes is the old precision 8" version of the 608, pre 4NS If the price was lower it's only a 45minute drive from me, but i dont think i can justify that even with rarity taken into account.

Justification is easy... just say, it’s cool and I want it.

I guess I wouldn’t be very good at AA meetings?

As for rare, I think I have heard of less than a 1/2 dozen known examples out there.

This is from the 1901 catalog.

Btw, does anyone why these photos are so small on here? These were taken and uploaded from an iPad?

I found that happens to me when I upload a high res. photo - the forum dramatically reduces the size like that. If I shrink the photo to 1200 or 1600 and compress it a little before uploading it shows up much larger.

No idea, I've never used an Ipad. You probably need an editing program. I use Thumbs Plus on windows. I also have little free resizing utilities that you just drag and drop files to to resize them, but again I know nothing about Ipads.

If you have access to Flickr, you can upload a photo there and choose the size you want to download, that is free.

Thanks Mud

I was hoping there was something simple, like take the picture with this thing and be done. I guess that is why I just haven’t been posting much since photobucket pissed me off.

If you'r taking the photo with the Ipad camera there might be a setting for resolution that you can change. On my Galaxy S5 I have 6 settings, plus the selfie camera is usually much smaller than the front camera.

Imgur can be set to automatically link the pic at any desired resolution. I find 800 x 600 is a good compromise. You can also set up to have all pics incoming to the account be some particular size. Saves resizing, which you can do with their in-built tools.

The one thing about using a service is the photos are available elsewhere as well. One upload, many downloads, many postings.

Otherwise, yes, uploaded here would make them last as long as the site managers think they are relevant. No idea if that would be longer or shorter than the time the outside service would last.

What Mud said.

Plus you have used the ".jpg" format. PM seems to auto-compress those more aggressively than a .png or such, even when you have reduced the .jpg first, in an external toolset.

Bringing a .jpg up on yer own screen, sizing it, then taking a "screenshot" of an "area selected" turns the output file into a .png format for me [1] without need of opening any editing tools.

Your iPad might have similar "screenshot" capture and store capability to some other-than-jpg file-format "right there" already?

My hands and eyes have never shrunk-down to where I can even USE an iPad at all, but after all those miniatures?

Your one might seem like a 1960's "Big Iron" IBM mainframe!

:)
