    If you look at the picture Apolune posted comparing the 4 blades shown with their groove side up; you will notice the oldest square has numbers on one side of the groove. The blade on my square is the same way.

    Well, that is interesting.

    It makes no sense that 1 2 3 4 would not have been stamped at all, but yes, they may have been stamped lightly.
