Straight wheel side on a carbide grinder confusion

I was poking around at my local machinery guy’s place looking for a carbide lathe tool grinder. I ran across this odd Carboloy grinder. It has a straight wheel on the left, and then the normal side wheel configuration on the right.

Looking around, Hammond offered this configuration as well according to their brochures.

What is this setup good for? I always thought grinding on the OD of a straight wheel was no good for brazed carbide.

It looks similar to this:

Yes I did steal that picture from another old thread, but I can’t seem to find a good reason for this configuration.

I use a straight aluminum oxide wheel to grind back the steel from the brazed carbide. Then I use a diamond side wheel to grind just the carbide.

On another grinder, I use a straight green wheel to rough grind the carbide if a lot needs to be removed. Then I finish grind on the diamond wheel.
