Were they all marked "SW" or is that just "earlier"?

Metal Lathe - tools - by owner - sale

Wonder how far back SP owned this. I think used be in East Houston a big SP shop facility

Always amazed at their relative lack of weight - 1901 M,M & M says 6545 on the 12 foot

Discussion of SW Putnam's Sons nom-de-plume at https://www.practicalmachinist.com/...45-1860-putnam-lathe-resto-114708/#post431586 (Peter of this board who is the locally recognized Putnam expert.) Adjunct to Putnam Tool Company later re-combined with Putnam Machine Co (per Putnam Machine Co. - History | VintageMachinery.org.)

Given the styling (Frog-foot tubular bed) I would put the date-range after 1876 but up into the Manning, Maxwell Moore age of the 20th century. Well shown in Rose's "Modern Machine Shop Practice" of 1879.

One of them Bellville ranchers probably bought it thinking he can fix anything on his farm with it. Bet it has $5000 price tag on it too!

Those adds that don't list a price are usually out of line.
