Hey guys, anybody know what a 28x96 New Haven Lathe might weigh. Found one on Craigslist in Hardin, Mt. It's calling my name for a restoration project. It's 280 miles away. $1500.00 bucks, hopefully negotiable. If not it stays.
Thanks guys. Sorry I don't know how to copy links and post pictures. The Computer Techs(My Kiddos) are asleep.

Light in those days

An example

27" 1901 L&S specs in thumbnail with 12 foot overall bed length

Thanks to Greg Menke for scanning and hosting this for me

Negotiation is always good but it sounds like you will pass if he won't come down. Unless it has some bad wear or is an undesirable brand I would buy it. It looks pretty much unmolested and complete. Good looking lathe but looks aren't everything. I have too many projects or I would be second in line.

Probably a bit rich on price...........but I can see an appeal about it. If I was in the market for a big lathe, I could see myself doing something impulsive.

I'm wondering what the structure is right above the chuck, with the sloping top

Any guess about age? I'm guessing 1890-1900?

From my 1899 New Haven catalog, which looks to be an exact match for this lathe.
28 inch swing, 13' 4" bed giving around 8 feet between centers, 5.800 lbs.
Probably add another 500 lbs to 600 lbs for the motor and transmission drive.

There is a quick change gearbox there. I got to thinking about price and finding gears. That could kill a deal on something that old.
nice old iron

Hey Rob, where would a guy find a New Haven Catalog? I looked online but prolly looked in the wrong place.
Thanks, Bryan

Gears that aren't to quick to change. I got these when I bought my ATW 14inch High Duty Lathe a few years ago.
