Looking hard at moving South soon. Both my flathers lathe will not be going with us. I'd rather sell'em to somone here before dealing with Craiglisters no show a holes.
Bigger one it about 8 foot 3 inches from the face of the chuck to a live center. you could get a few more inches if you hand the tail stock off the end.
Theres a steady rest(non roller type.) a follower rest (bolts to the cross slide) a 18 inch face plate, 3 four jaw chucks, A bunch of change gears. there part of a tapper attachment but don't have the slide but the way and angle setting device is there.
The drive is a 2hp 220v single phase revable motor to a 4 speed drive
all gearbox. Plain bearing non roller head. It's got a back gear and a small
transmistion for the carrage.
In the pic you'll see a small 3 jaw chuck in a large 4 jaw chuck cause
i didn't have a 3 jaw with the right thread. I also have a 6 foot
lathe made by the same MFG but it a latter unit with full inclosed
gear box. I've not had the 6 foot under power at all yet. 001.jpg

This lathe came out of the Samual S. Bent furniture company in Gardner Mass about 2 months before they closed up. so its had only two owners its whole life.

Here are some images of the taper attachment and the missing sliding block. It would not be difficult to make a copy.

Your lathe has elements like this 1901 model.

Could you post images and dimensions of the follow rest?
And the steady rest?

I have an 1896 16" with a shorter bed, and lathe envy :D

Thanks for the photos!
The two bolts on the follow rest, Do they have tapered flats that pin the legs in place?
Not a lot of follow rest photos. The original design was changed. Looks like one can be fabbed from plate.
The bottom of the steady changed but they kept the fancy wing nut.
Added a bit about the three speed gear box introduced in 1901.

I'll have to look this weekend I've never used it...had to dig it out to take the pictures.
The only SN number i've ever found is on the tail stock. 1077

The smaller lathe I've never messed with, found it on craigs list and bought it figuring i'd get around to setting it up to replace the larger one but had to move out of the shop where it was stored a few weeks after hauling off and put in the storage unit....that was close to 10 years ago.

Flipped the pics.
Looks like the large lathe is a 20" and the "small one" is 14"?

What is the last photo? Hi-Lo feed range or part of a relieving attachment?
John

It's an enclosed transmission from spindle to quick change gear box. I don't remember 100% why it was taken off, but recall a gear or two had been "fixed" with for lack of a better term "Dentures" Pegs pressed in then teeth profile cut, but don't recall if it was in the box or the smaller box. There is a "Drive All" speed box too.
