Foot powered sliding gap bed lathe

Apologies for posting something which probably was never very"practical" when new. I picked this up a few years ago with something more useful as I thought it was interesting and felt sorry for the thing.....since then it has sat in bits in the way an I thought I better put the bits together, even if the next stop is China.
I think you guys had more smaller sliding bed lathes than we did? Do you see lathes of this size (3 1/2") in catalogs?

Neat. Not very well thought out though. It's got a plenty rigid top bed, but the lower bed is very noodley. No heavy cuts on that one.
