I am hoping somebody might be able to give me some information and date on this, "I think" 6 inch slotter. It is cast into the side Smith & Coventry Ltd Manchester Paris No 5740.
The machine looks to me to have been made to belt to an overhead shaft and new fabricated plates have been bolted to the back of the casting to support the counter shaft and motor.

Nice old machine, about 1860 I'd say. I have a Sharp Stewart that looks rather like it,the last model of which was made in 1862. The T section frame is an early feature. Hope this is some help.

Hi Ted, Thank you for your response. I thought my machine might have been from around the turn of the Century but when looking at the image of the blue Slotter (1856) in the Science Museum Group Collection, I see many similarities in this and my machine. Especially the base footprint and lower front and rear webs in it's casting.
