www.automationdirect, click on "drives", then Hitachi L100 series. Current price on a Hitachi L100 2 hp with single phase input feature is $295.

Sean, a FVD is a box between the size of a smll loaf of bread and a sixer. You mount it where you can get at the controls on the face of the drive buy out of the way for splash and chips. You hook up the wires to the power and the wires to the motor. There's usually a speed knob you turn to control the motor RPM and an on/off.

I'll lead you to the water. Don't forget to drink:

Here's Dealers Electric who offers used and clearanced VFD's and 3 phase motors. If you approach them, don't be afraid to bargain.

http://drives.com/ takes you to MagneTek makers of the drive I favor. There's no good reason I favor MegneTek drives except the local dealer has made me some fine offers of used and surplus MagneTek drives.

http://www.baldor.com has been in the motor business for generations and the VFD business for about 10 years. They make fine drives too including a line of 115 volt single phase input drives that run a 230 volt motor using clever step-up electronics.

Study your subject, Sean and Robert. These drives are complex inside but bone simple to use. The trick is to understand all their features before you make the selection.

I recently bought aVFD from dealers electric Ihp Baldor motor and a VFD for $245.00. works great on my Burke Millrite. The manual that come with it will drive you nuts for a while unless your are an electrical whiz. But I figured it out so anyone can-----Tim Smyth
