I was just out in the back of the shop and got to looking at our Colburn Heavy Duty Drill Press. I was wondering if this machine could have been flatbelt drive originally. The motor mount plate has kind of sloppy welds. I don't think the factory would allow terrible looking welds. If anyone has reference info, The model is D 6 with a serial number of 148. Made by Colburn Machine Tool Co, Franklin, PA USA. We still use this machine for drilling large 2-3" holes. Works great. We bought this machine used in either the late 40's or early 50's. It may have come from the Southern Pacific Railroad.
I can't post a picture right now, but I hope to soon.
