I've searched for Bridgeport lube questions but haven't seen this issue addressed. I've been working on removing a bit of rust on the ways on my J head series 1 that I just aquired. I was using 000 and 0000 steel wool so as to only reove teh rust and not affect the ways themselves. I got good news and bad news.
The good news is that the ways are in even better condition than I originally thought with scraping marks looking like they're 85% to 90% of original.
The bad news is that it looks like the last owner did actually pump some kind of white grease into at least one or two zerk fittings! I was wondering why it was so hard to move the knee in some areas, so I raised it all the way to the top and sure enough, there was a coating of white grease on the bottom portion of the right side ways. The question now is how to get it flushed out? I really don't have any way to easily remove the knee, so I'd like to find a way to flush it while it's on the machine. I'm concerned that there won't be enough pressure from one of the modified grease guns to push the grease through.
While we're on th etopic of lubing a Bridgeport, how hard is it to plumb in one of the one shot lube systems? I did seee mention in one post about lining up all the right marks before lubing. Any comments?
I intend to order a manual this week for the machine. Any recommendations or should I just call Dee?
